In an effort to connect local college students and community members with meaningful volunteer opportunities, United Way of Northeastern Minnesota (UWNEMN) has partnered with Minnesota North College to host Volunteer Fairs throughout the month of November.
“We know there are organizations throughout our region looking for volunteers, and we know there are people who want to get involved but aren't always sure where to start,” said UWNEMN Volunteer & Engagement Coordinator Emily Unhjem. “These Volunteer Fairs are an opportunity to bridge that gap. The excitement we've received from both the Minnesota North Colleges and participating organizations shows us there's a real desire for more opportunities like this.”
All fairs run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and are open to the public:
- Hibbing Campus: Wednesday, November 4
- Rainy River Campus (International Falls): Thursday, November 5
- Vermilion Campus (Ely): Friday, November 13
- Mesabi Virginia Campus: Monday, November 16
- Mesabi Eveleth Campus: Tuesday, November 17
Vermilion Campus Director Keith Turner is looking forward to the first annual UWNEMN Volunteer Fair on his campus.
“We're excited to host the Volunteer Fair because it connects our students and community members with organizations that make a real difference across northeastern Minnesota,” he said. “We hope attendees discover meaningful ways to get involved, build connections, and find volunteer opportunities that align with their interests and passions.”
Mesabi Campus Admissions Specialist - Campus Support Lead Emily Jankila Christiansen shares Turner’s enthusiasm and thinks attendees may also find a new volunteer interest they hadn’t considered before.
“It's also a great opportunity for the community to see what's happening at our colleges, learn about our programs, involvement opportunities within Minnesota North, and make lasting connections with organizations that are making a difference across the region,” she said.
